I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare March 1978 playbill from the out-of-town tryout of the BOB MERRILL musical comedy flop "THE PRINCE OF GRAND STREET" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production opened March 7th, 1978 at the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia and closed April 15th, 1978 in Boston, canceling the scheduled May 11th, 1978 Broadway opening at New York's Palace Theatre.) ..... The musical starred ROBERT PRESTON in what would have been his final Broadway appearance and featured NEVA SMALL, WERNER KLEMPERER, DAVID MARGULIES, BERNICE MASSI, SAMMY SMITH, ALAN MANSON, ADDISON POWELL, ALEXANDER ORFALY, RICHARD MUENZ, WALTER CHARLES, DARLENE ANDERS and SAM LEVENE ..... CREDITS: Book, Music and Lyrics by BOB MERRILL ("New Girl in Town", "Carnival", "Take Me Along", "Funny Girl", "Henry, Sweet Henry", "Sugar", "Prettybelle", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "The Prince of Grand Street"); Sets designed by DAVID MITCHELL; Costumes designed by JANE GREENWOOD; Choreographed by LEE THEODORE; Directed by GENE SAKS; Produced by ROBERT WHITEHEAD and ROGER L. DETAILS: The 32 page playbill measures 5 5/8" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team, but no cast photos ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor creasing at the corners, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
